The Celebration of Lorraine Hansberry

Sharing from Visionaries of the Creative Arts, Inc.

VOCA is excited to present a special event correlating with Black History Month to recognize Lorraine Hansberry's influential work. Claudia Gordon, our prominent trailblazer in the African-American Deaf community, will lead the program as a host and a moderator for the panel.

The program will commence first with a narrative introduction of Lorraine Hansberry and brief video clips of her life and work, then proceed with the welcoming remarks from VOCA's visionary leaders, Michelle Banks and Nayte Paxton. Michelle and Nayte will speak about the vision of VOCA and the production of A RAISIN IN THE SUN.

VOCA will broadcast its short film, A Sneak Peek of A RAISIN IN THE SUN, directed by Michelle Banks and Nayte Paxton. The film is about 22 minutes long. After the film showing, Claudia will moderate the panel. The panelists are Michelle Banks (Artistic Director/Director), Nayte Paxton (Associate Artistic Director/Director), Justin Schmitz (Sound Designer), Evon Black (Actor, Lena Younger), and Kojo Amissah (Actor, Walter Lee Younger).

Please join us in celebrating Lorraine Hansberry's life and work for over 60 years, which have significantly impacted American theaters throughout nationwide and worldwide!

This event will be in American Sign Language (ASL). VOCA will provide ASL/voice interpreting and closed captioning.
