Guest Facilitator: Kaitlyn Mielke

Bio: A lifetime arts and theatre aficionado, Kaitlyn has dabbled in multiple disciplines of the arts and theater world. As a Deafblind writer/actor, she enjoys being behind the curtain as a consultant to sign language interpreting teams for touring Broadway shows and advising  theaters by providing insight into theater accessibility for Deaf & Deafblind patrons. She is known as the “whole package deal” in the theater community, as she provides insight from multiple intersectionalities including Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deafblind, Deaf + low vision, interpreter, actor, and theatermaker. This unique collection of perspectives allows her to advocate for access from all aspects of theatre making.

Kaitlyn got her start in arts advocacy as an outreach specialist for VSA Minnesota through an internship made possible through the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 2012. Kaitlyn recently participated in National Theatre of the Deaf’s Playwright Convening as a theatermaker (along other roles such as script doctor, Zoom stage manager, and virtual accessibility expert). She has performed "For Good" from the musical Wicked with the original Glinda, Kristin Chenoweth; appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show for the 40th anniversary reunion of The Sound of Music film; and performed in a local production of Fame: the Musical as the only Deafblind actor among hearing costars.
