Join a book discussion with Rogan Shannon
Deaf Republic by Ilya Kaminsky, a story told through poetry about a country in the middle of political unrest. The whole town goes deaf after hearing a gunshot that killed a deaf boy, and they coordinate a rebellion through sign language.
Big Read and Deaf Spotlight are collaborating to provide 20 free copies of this book (first come, first serve) to those interested in reading it and chatting about it. Rogan Shannon will be moderating the discussion.
Rogan Shannon is a homegrown PNW person, and they work as a Deaf interpreter. They enjoy reading, exploring, and creating art of various forms in their spare time, including digital art, acting, improv, and many more!
The National Endowment for the Arts Big Read—a partnership with Arts Midwest—broadens our understanding of our world, our neighbors, and ourselves through the power of a shared reading experience. Showcasing a diverse range of themes, voices, and perspectives, the NEA Big Read aims to inspire meaningful conversations, artistic responses, and new discoveries and connections in each community. Many thanks to NTID/RIT for spearheading this project!
